Extra-Curricular Science Round-up
On Wednesday 21st June, a group of Year 8 students visited St. Michael’s Chorley for the Royal Institution ‘Feel the Power’ electricity show.
On Tuesday 27th June, 8 Year 9 students took part in the Chorley and South Ribble Schools Physics Olympics at Albany Academy. A great team performance resulted in the Hutton team finishing runners up to the host school.
On Wednesday 28th June, the lower sixth physics group travelled to the University of Manchester Physics School. We attended lectures on ‘The Hunt for Earth-2’ (Exoplanets and the Search for Life), the ‘The Hunt for the Higgs’, ‘Evolution, Evacuation, Economics’ (the physics of agent-based models) and ‘Life, Death and the Universe’. The students were able to gain an interesting insight into student life in the physics department.
On Friday 30th June 32 KS3 students visited the UCLAN Science Festival. We attended shows on ‘Everest Lab’, the ‘Science of Fireworks’ and ‘This is Chemistry’, and students had time to explore the Science Showfloor.
We were visited by the RAF roadshow on Tuesday 4th July, attended by all Year 8 students. The highlights were a drone display and firing up of a jet engine outside the school hall.
On Tuesday 11th July, all our Year 9 students took part in our science enrichment day. The theme was ‘The Science of a Night Out’.
