Higher Education

For many students, A Levels are a pathway to higher education and at Hutton Sixth Form we have an excellent track record of supporting students to apply for and secure places at their chosen universities.

Following the results in 2016:

  • 80% of our A Level students accepted a place at university (compared to the college average of 39%)
  • 84% of those who applied secured a place at their firm or insurance choice university
  • 39% have gone on to study at selective universities (compared to the college average of 10%). 
  • 16% of the students who received their results in 2016 are now studying Law
  • 9% are studying for degrees relating to medical professions
  • 27% are studying subjects relating to Maths, Sciences or Engineering
  • 22% are studying for degrees in Business, Management or Economics
  • 11%  are studying for English or Humanities degrees

Case Studies

David Tipping was Deputy Head Boy and a member of our successful debating team last year and after achieving 3A*s and 2As, he is now studying Law & European Law at Christ Church College, Oxford University.

Jacob Browne was Head Boy last year and after achieving an A*, an A and 3 Bs he is now studying Sport & Exercise Science at Loughborough University.

Rachel Massey, last year’s Deputy Head Girl who joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School, is now taking a gap year after achieving  3A*s and an A.

Daniel Timmers stayed on after 5 years in the main school. He is now studying Maths, Operational Research, Statistics & Economics at Warwick University after achieving 2 A*s and 3As.

Elyse Campbell, last year’s Senior Lead Prefect, joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School. She is now studying Biomedical Science at Newcastle University after achieving an A and 2Bs.

Charley Bond joined us from Bishop Rawstorne Academy. She is now studying Psychology at York University after achieving excellent results including an A* in Psychology.

Graham Fox joined us from Standish Community High School and went on to be a key performer in our successful debating team before gaining excellent A level results including As in Law and Maths. He is now studying Law at Bristol University.

Damien Lucas stayed on after Year 11. He achieved a great set of results including As in Physics and Computing. He is studying Electronic Engineering at Leeds University.

Matthew Stevenson also stayed on after Year 11. He achieved excellent results including an A in Economics. He is studying Economics at Lancaster University.

Hannah Lord joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School. She is now studying Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University after achieving an excellent set of results including an A* in Politics.

Leona Upton joined us from All Hallows RC High School in Penwortham. After achieving strong results, she is studying French & German at Lancaster University.

Nicole Procopides joined us from Penwortham Priory Academy and she is now studying Politics at Lancaster University after achieving a very good set of results including an A in Psychology.

Gemma Laverty  joined us from Tarleton Academy and is now studying Marketing & Design at Lancaster University after achieving a great set of results including an A* in Fine Art.

Umberto Zerbinati  joined us from Italy and he is now studying Maths at Greenwich University after achieving a strong set of results including an A* in his EPQ.

Amy Bonser joined us from Penwortham Priory Academy and, after achieving very good results including an A in Fine Art, she is studying Fine Art at Lancaster University.

Matthew Farrier stayed on after 5 years in our main school. He is now studying Medicine at Newcastle University after achieving an outstanding  set of results including A*s  in Maths and Chemistry.

Paul Furnival stayed on after 5 years in the main school and he is now studying PPE at Hull University after achieving a strong set of results.

Joe Wignall also stayed on after the main school and he is now studying Law at Hull University.

Annabel Townsley is now studying Business Management at Heriot Watt University after she joined us from Bishop Rawstorne Academy.

Following the results in 2015:

Case Studies

Katie Hood, last year’s Head Girl who joined us from All Hallows Catholic High School in Penwortham, is now studying Engineering at Liverpool University.

Ben Coombe stayed on after 5 years in the main school. He was Deputy Head Boy last year and is now studying Law at Manchester University after achieving A*s in Economics, Law and English Literature.

Nikhil Mali was Head Boy last year and after achieving 2As and 2A*s, he is now pursuing a gap year before starting the KPMG degree in Accounting & Finance at Durham University.

Katie Lee, last year’s Deputy Head Girl, joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School. She is studying Law at Manchester University after achieving 2As and 2A*s.

Eve Hood joined us from Bishop Rawstorne Academy. She is now studying Theoretical Physics at Durham University after achieving excellent results including an A* in Maths.

Alice Dockerill joined us from St. Michaels, Chorley and went on to be a key performer in our successful Debating Team before gaining excellent A level results including an A* in Maths. She is now studying Mathematics with Finance at Leeds University.

Cameron Kenworthy stayed on after Year 11. He achieved a great set of results including A* in Maths and he is studying Chemical Physics at Edinburgh University.

Jake Piela-Lee stayed on after main school and achieved an outstanding set of results including A*s in Politics and General Studies. He is now studying Management at Leeds University.

Adam Robinson also stayed on after Year 11. He was a key member of our Debating Team, achieving outstanding results including A*s in General Studies and English Literature. He is studying Education Studies at Durham University.

Stuart Mercer was captain of our Debating Team and Senior Lead Prefect. He is studying Politics at Sheffield University after achieving a very good set of results.

Olivia Dodding joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School. She is now studying Psychology at Manchester University after achieving an excellent set of results including an A* in Psychology.

Hanna Bray joined us from St. Michaels, Chorley. After achieving straight As she is studying the EY Degree in Accounting, Auditing & Finance at Lancaster University.

Suzanne Walmsley joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School and she is now studying Psychology at Durham University after achieving a very good set of results.

Hollie Morgan joined us from Bishop Rawstorne Academy and is now studying Law at Manchester University after achieving a great set of results.

Madelaine Brogden joined us from Penwortham Priory Academy and she is now studying Law at UCLan.

Hannah de Freitas joined us from Penwortham Girls’ High School and after achieving straight As, she is studying Psychology at Edge Hill University.

Chris Adamson stayed on after 5 years in our main school. He is now studying IT Management for Business at Manchester University after achieving a strong set of results including an A* in Maths.

Ryan Daley stayed on after his 5 years in our main school. He is now working at BAE Systems after achieving straight As in his chosen A levels.
