Teacher of English

MPS - Required from 1st September 2018

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic teacher of English to join our Church of England 11-18 comprehensive school, judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in May 2017 and ‘Outstanding’ by SIAMS in February 2018.

The department has a strong track record of success in motivating students to achieve their best and we are looking for a teacher who can use their knowledge and experience to inspire and encourage our students.

The English Department at Hutton currently consists of 8 members of staff and consistently produces outstanding results. In 2017 the percentage of students attaining grades 4-9 in English at GCSE was 82%, whilst the percentage of students attaining grades 5-9 in English at GCSE 67%; these outcomes were, respectively, 25% & 30% better than those of boys nationally at the end of KS4.
In May of 2017 Ofsted noted that ‘Pupils make outstanding progress in English... This is a result of strong teaching, effective assessment and interventions’.

The English Department currently follow EDUQAS at GCSE and AQA at A Level; subjects within the department studied at A Level are English Literature and English Combined, both of which are popular choices with students. The department also plays a full and very active role in the school’s commitment to providing a large variety of enrichment opportunities for students across the 11-18 range.

Our success can be credited to our hard-working students, supportive parents and committed and dedicated staff both within the English Department and school as a whole.

The successful candidate will teach at Key Stage 3 and GCSE level initially, with the possibility to take on A Level classes in future years. The successful candidate may also teach Key Stage 3 Drama so experience of this would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement.

Hutton has a long tradition of success, a strong reputation, and is regularly oversubscribed.

Application forms can be downloaded from the school website (www.huttongrammar.org) and should be returned by post or e-mailed to head@huttongrammar.org by the closing date. If you have any questions please contact us by e-mail to head@huttongrammar.org.
