School Transport

Bus Services

A document giving details of the bus services organised by Lancashire County Council can be downloaded below. Details of the cost of these services and how to buy a bus pass is available from the School Travel Line at www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/school-transport/

School Bus Services

The current social distancing measures may have a significant impact on the provision of school buses if they remain in force for September. We do not yet have detailed advice and guidance from the government as to how this will be managed and resolved. We are keeping an eye on developments and will provide more information as soon as it is available.

The school has run two additional bus services in past. The first is a minibus which serves the Eccleston, Croston and Bretherton area. The second is the 842 bus service which runs from Grimsargh, through Fulwood and Ashton. The viability of these services depends on the number of passengers being sufficient to cover the costs of running the buses. If you wish to register an interest in transport from any of these areas please contact the School Business Manager, Mrs Gilmore, via bursar@huttongrammar.org. We will only be able to run these services if enough parents are willing to pay to cover the costs involved. These services may also be affected by any social distancing restrictions which remain in place for September.

All school buses drop off outside the school gates in the morning and then collect from within the school site at the end of the day.

The school is also easily accessible via public transport with bus stops on either side of the road a short walk from the school gates. The number 2 and 2a services run by Stagecoach call at these stops in both directions towards Preston and Southport.

Cycling to School

A large number of students choose to cycle to school and this is something we encourage. Students who cycle to school must wear a helmet and should ensure that their bicycles are in good working order with appropriate lights for winter journeys and working front and rear brakes. Students cycling to school must use the Moor Lane entrance and ensure they lock their bicycle in the racks provided. We urge all students to cycle responsibly, making sure they observe the rules of the road and thinking about other road users. This is to protect their own safety, as well as the safety of others. Students will have the opportunity to take part in a Bikeability session during Year 7 if they wish to improve their road awareness when cycling.

Transport by Car

We recognise that some students will need to be dropped off at school by their parents in the car. If you are dropping off or collecting please note you will not be allowed to access the school site at the start and end of the school day. This is to ensure the safety of all our students as they make their way in and out of school. The memorial gate should not be used as a turning circle at the start and end of the school day as this is used for pedestrian access. There should be no parking on the zig-zag lines outside the school and we would ask you to make sure you are considerate to local residents and businesses when finding a place to park, turn around or stop.
