Admissions & Year 7 Transition

Year 6 Information

Year 6 Information

The movement from Primary School to Secondary School can be an unsettling time for young people, Primary School students are sometimes overawed by the size of the school buildings, the size of the other students and the movement around the school between lessons.

At Hutton we do our best to ensure that the transition process is as smooth as possible, providing reassurance to each individual student. It helps that we are a relatively small school with an excellent Pastoral Support system.

Hutton carries out a detailed programme of induction for the youngsters transferring in from a large number of Primary Schools at the start of Year 7.

Senior staff visit feeder Primary Schools during May and June to meet students moving to Hutton and to meet their teachers. Key topics discussed are; -

  • The Christian ethos of the school.
  • The difference between primary and secondary school.
  • School uniform.
  • Planners
  • How not to get lost.
  • Having a friend in your Tutor Group.
  • How classes are set.

The Year 6 Taster day for students starting at Hutton September 2018 will be held on the Thursday 28th June. Click here for further information.  Induction-Booklet-2018.doc
