Hutton sixth form welcomes Cath Greenlees to get us ready for Fairtrade Christmas Sales!
A bit about Cath
Cath taught RE at Penwortham Girls’ School and later at Preston College and even Hutton Grammar School!! She tells us she has visited Uganda and Israel/Palestine to see projects undertaken by Christian Aid for clean water, improved agriculture, school and vocational education and medical care; and also Peru to meet some of the people working in Fairtrade plantations and craft centres, for example coffee producers in the Andes and craftspeople knitting alpaca jumpers and soft toys or making ceramic beads and plates. She says, 'It was humbling and life-changing to experience the contrast with life in the UK, to see extreme poverty and also to observe the resilience and determination of so many of the people - and their appreciation for whatever help they had received. If a similar opportunity arises for you, please take it!' We were delighted to spend time with Cath in The Chapel and learn more about Fairtrade with plenty of Fairtrade tea, coffee, biscuits and chocolate tasting!
Next Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday members of the sixth form will be holding Fairtrade Sales at lunchtime, by the Dining Hall lockers. There will be all the usual chocolate and biscuit goodies as well as a chance to buy Christmas cards and Traidcraft Christmas presents. Supporting Fairtrade really does save lives, as medicines can be purchased, a village may eventually purchase a pump for clean water and children get a chance to go to school. Do you want to make a difference to someone else's life? A little bit from everyone makes a very big bit!! We look forward to seeing you there.
