16-19 Bursary Fund - 2016-17
Hutton Church of England Grammar School will endeavour to allocate the Bursary Fund in such a way as to support the most vulnerable young people to participate in and benefit from post-16 education. It is intended that recipients of a bursary use it to help pay for things such as meals, transport, books and equipment and other course-related costs.
The applicant is the student, not the parent, even though some eligibility criteria are based on parental income.
Any cheque reimbursements will be made at the end of each half term (6 per year) direct to the students, subject to them having met agreed standards for attendance, behaviour and work. They will need their own bank account, as payments will not be made in cash.
A bursary of £1,200 is available only to students who are:
- in care or a care leaver
- in receipt of income support or universal credit
- disabled and in receipt of Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance or Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment
Eligibility for discretionary bursaries will be assessed under two categories :
- You qualify for free school meals
- Your total family income is up to £22,000
The amount allocated per individual in categories 1 and 2 will depend on the number of qualifying applications. Priority will be given to those in category 1.
A contingency fund will be kept to allow for applications arising from changes in students’ circumstances during the year.
Applications with supporting evidence (a list of relevant evidence is on the application form) must be received by the notified deadline in order to be considered. Late applications will only be considered where there has been a change in circumstances following this deadline. Students who have received a bursary in the previous year will need re-apply with updated supporting evidence to show that they are still eligible.
Applications must be made on our official application form and returned to the School Business Manager, who will then assess all applications received. The deadline for applications for 2016-17 is Wednesday 21st September 2016. A panel made up of the School Business Manager, the Headteacher and the Director of Sixth Form (or in their absence a member of the Senior Management Team) will then award the bursaries. Each application will be allocated a reference number, so that the panel award the bursaries without reference to the individual students, to ensure it is a fair and equal process.
Students will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application. It is their responsibility to inform their parents / carers.
If you wish to appeal against the outcome of your application, you must do so in writing, stating your reasons, within 7 working days of the outcome notification. Your appeal should be sent to the School Business Manager. You will receive a response to your appeal within 7 working days of receipt of your appeal.
Supplying incorrect / inaccurate information on the application form will be treated as fraud. If a fraudulent application is made, any monies paid to the individual will have to be refunded to school and we reserve the right to take legal action against the claimant.
Any change in circumstances during the year, that may mean you no longer meet our criteria for a bursary, must be reported to the School Business Manager as soon as possible. Failure to do so will be treated as fraud.
