Religious Studies Behaviour Policy
Religious Studies Behaviour Policy
At Hutton Church of England Grammar School and Sixth Form, we strive to build a learning community where Christ’s example shapes how we relate to one another. Guided by the biblical principle from Philippians 2:5,
“In your relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus”
This, with the value of Koinonia, we encourage a culture of shared commitment, mutual support, and spiritual growth.
Our expectations are built on the school and sixth form’s three behaviour pillars: Ready, Resilient, and Respectful.
1. READY
"Be prepared in season and out of season..." – 2 Timothy 4:2
To reflect Christ’s mindset, being ready means approaching each day and each lesson with purpose and commitment.
- Arrive on time and prepared with all necessary equipment.
- Focus your attention fully on learning tasks.
- Take responsibility for your own progress, using time wisely.
- Be spiritually and mentally prepared to support others.
Koinonia in action: We come together as one body, supporting and encouraging one another in our shared learning journey.
2. RESILIENT
"Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus..." – Hebrews 12:1–2
- Christ’s humility and endurance model how we respond to challenges.
- Embrace mistakes as part of the learning process.
- Show determination when work is difficult or unfamiliar.
- Ask for help and accept feedback with a growth mindset.
- Encourage others not to give up.
Koinonia in action: We stand together, lifting each other up and persevering through difficulties with compassion and faith.
3. RESPECTFUL
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition... but in humility value others above yourselves." – Philippians 2:3
Respect is shown through our words, our actions, and how we treat God’s creation.
- Listen actively to staff and peers.
- Speak kindly and act with integrity at all times.
- Respect the learning environment and school property.
- Celebrate diversity and differences as gifts from God.
Koinonia in action: We honour each person as a valuable member of our Christian fellowship, showing love and care in all our relationships.

Restorative Approach to Behaviour at Hutton
At Hutton, our approach to behaviour is rooted in the importance of building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships. When behaviour expectations are not met, staff will engage pupils and students in a restorative conversation. This approach seeks not only to address the issue but to repair relationships and promote growth.
Restorative Conversations:
- Help the pupil or student understand the impact of their behaviour and why it was inappropriate.
- Provide a safe space for the pupil or student to feel heard and valued.
- Encourage forgiveness, reflection, and reconciliation, in line with our Christian ethos.
- Support a constructive dialogue to find a practical and achievable way forward.
- May result in setting clear goals or targets to help the pupil or student make positive changes.
- This process is not about punishment but about restoring relationships, rebuilding trust, and helping every learner flourish in a community shaped by the mindset of Christ Jesus.
Conclusion
Living with the mindset of Christ means more than just following rules – it’s about building a culture of love, humility, and unity. As a school founded in Christian values, we seek to grow not just in knowledge, but in character and community.
Together, we are READY to learn, RESILIENT in challenge, and RESPECTFUL in all we do.
