Personal Statement Boost
All extracurricular opportunities at Hutton Sixth Form are valuable — both to us as a school and to you as an individual. Many of the activities on offer help you build important skills that are highly valued in university, apprenticeship, and job applications after Sixth Form.
Leadership Opportunities at Hutton Sixth Form
At Hutton, there are loads of chances to take on leadership roles and make a real difference to school life. These opportunities help you build confidence, boost your CV or personal statement, and prepare for life after Sixth Form. Each year, we appoint Head Students and Deputies who represent both the school and Sixth Form. To apply, you’ll need to write a personal statement and take part in an interview with Mrs Moran, Mr Hill, and Miss Yule.
If chosen, you’ll take on important roles like speaking at events, helping with open evenings and taster days, and acting as role models for the rest of the school.
Head of House
Hutton’s five Houses have a long standing tradition. As a Head of House, you’ll represent your form at School Council meetings, raise issues or concerns, and help plan charity events for your House’s chosen cause. It’s a great way to show leadership while giving back to the community.
Sixth Form Council
Our Sixth Form Council gives students a voice in shaping school life. Members are elected by their peers after giving campaign speeches.
The Council has already achieved some great things – from organising end-of-year events to getting fridges and recycling bins installed in the Sixth Form Centre. If you’re passionate about change and enjoy working with others, this is a great role to go for.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
All students have the option to complete an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). The Qualification is a chance to research any topic you’re interested in and create a detailed essay or artefact, plus a short presentation. The EPQ is worth half an A Level in UCAS points and is highly respected by universities and apprenticeship providers. It’s also a great way to explore a subject outside your A Levels and show your independence and curiosity.
Paired Reading
One of our most rewarding and unique opportunities is Paired Reading, where you’ll work one-on-one with a younger student to help improve their reading skills. You’ll receive training from the English Department and gain experience working closely with others. This is especially useful if you're thinking about a career in teaching or any role that involves helping or mentoring others.
