Work Experience and Your Future
Work Experience
Work experience is an exciting and valuable part of our Sixth Form curriculum. It gives students the opportunity to step into the real world and gain first-hand insight into a workplace environment. It also helps build confidence, develop key employability skills, and shape future career decisions.
Students are encouraged to find their own placements, choosing opportunities that match their career goals or personal interests. Whether you're interested in medicine, law, engineering, business, or the arts, work experience helps bring your ambitions to life and strengthens university, apprenticeship, and job applications.
Careers Support
You won’t be alone in finding a placement — we offer plenty of guidance to support you throughout the process.
Your Personal Development Tutor will help you get started and give you advice on where to look and how to apply. Form Tutors, along with Miss Yule and Mr Hill, are also experienced in supporting students with work experience and can provide guidance if you’re unsure or facing difficulties.
We also have Mr Ficorilli, our independent careers adviser, who is available weekly to offer one-to-one advice. He has strong links with a wide range of industries and can help you find subject-specific placements in areas like engineering HR and Law.
With the right support and your own initiative, work experience can be one of the most rewarding parts of your time in Sixth Form.
Beyond Sixth Form
Support for Your Future
From the moment you join Sixth Form, you’ll be supported every step of the way by a team of experienced advisors who are here to help you plan your next move. Whether you're aiming for university, an apprenticeship, or a job after Sixth Form, we’ll give you the guidance you need to make smart, informed decisions.
We’ll help you explore different careers and courses that match your interests and goals, and give you advice on how to get there.
You’ll also have access to some amazing opportunities, including:
-
Study days at Cambridge and Oxford
-
Connections with the NHS and other professional organisations
-
Talks from guest speakers including university students, graduates, and people working in a wide range of careers
-
A trip to a Higher Education Convention where you can chat with university reps and explore your options
-
An Oxbridge conference with lectures and Q&A sessions for students aiming for top universities
Most of our students go on to university, and we’re proud to have recent leavers studying at places like Cambridge, Durham, Warwick, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Lancaster, UCLan, Edge Hill, and many more.
If university isn’t your goal, we also offer expert advice on apprenticeships and employment. You can book one-to-one sessions with our dedicated careers advisor, Mr Ficorilli, who’ll help you explore different pathways and find the best route forward.
