What do we cover in this subject?
A Level Drama & Theatre Studies explores the work of classical and modern playwrights, directors, and theatre practitioners. You’ll develop your understanding of theatre through watching and analysing live and recorded performances, as well as through practical workshops and performances of your own.
How is this subject taught?
You’ll learn through a mix of theory and practical work. Workshops will help you explore different theatre styles and apply them in performances. You’ll perform regularly in front of your peers and live audiences. You'll also take part in professional workshops and get the chance to hear from guest speakers working in the industry.
What are the enrichment opportunities in this subject?
Drama offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. We run regular trips to see a variety of live performances, from musicals to dance shows. Our London residential gives students the chance to visit top theatre venues and watch West End productions.
There’s also the chance to take part in the whole-school musical, with many leading roles going to Sixth Form students, our most recent productions have been, The Wizard of Oz, Macbeth and Little Shop of Horrors.
If you're interested in teaching, you can run your own drama club for younger students—great experience to include in your UCAS application.
Where does this subject lead to after Sixth Form?
This course is both academic and creative, making it well-respected by top universities and a range of employers.
