What do we cover in this subject?
A level french is exciting, challenging, and perfect for anyone who wants to push their skills beyond GCSE level! You’ll dive deep into the culture, society, and everyday life in France. Expect to explore relatable topics like music, movies, politics, immigration, and the digital world. You’ll also study a French film and a novel, helping you understand more than just vocabulary but the mindset and history behind the language. Plus, you’ll get to choose a topic that you care about for an independent research project, which you’ll present in your chosen language.
How is this subject taught?
We keep it personal and interactive, with small class sizes, you’ll get loads of one-on-one time with your teachers. This means more opportunities for speaking practice and boosting your confidence in real-life conversations. You’ll also have online resources and an eBook to help you out both in class and at home, making sure you’re always prepared.
At the end of Year 13, you’ll take three exams. Paper 1 will test your listening and reading skills, plus translation and summarization of new texts. In Paper 2 you will write two essays on the film and novel you studied. And for your speaking exam, you’ll present your independent research project, talk about a photo card linked to one of the topics you’ve covered and answer questions.

You’ll get the chance to interact with students from all around the world, as we have plenty of overseas students who speak different languages like French and German. There are also opportunities to help younger students with their language skills by coaching them in French and German.
