Photography

What do we cover in this subject?

In this course, you’ll learn how to take amazing photos using both cameras and editing software like Photoshop. You’ll explore different styles such as portraits, landscapes, fashion, experimental photography, and even photo installations. You’ll also develop your own ideas, research themes, and create final pieces for an exam project.

As you progress, you’ll start to focus more on your favourite styles or techniques and learn how to communicate your ideas through both photos and writing.

How is this subject taught?

You’ll take part in creative lessons, including studio and location shoots, editing sessions, and hands-on workshops. You’ll build your skills, experiment with different materials, and learn how to plan, present, and reflect on your work. You’ll be taught in your own photography studio, with space to develop your projects.

60% of your grade comes from coursework, and 40% from a final exam project.

What are the enrichment opportunities in this subject?

You’ll take part in specialist workshops and visit galleries to get inspired. At the end of the course, you’ll set up your own exhibition in the Sixth Form Art Studio to showcase your best work—a great way to celebrate everything you’ve achieved. We run a creative arts trip to Manchester Metropolitan University where students can take part in workshops, view the campus and use the equipment.
