What are Biology, Chemistry and Physics?
Biology explores living organisms and life processes, including human biology, plants, ecosystems, genetics and health. Pupils learn how living things function, adapt and interact.
Chemistry focuses on substances, their properties, and how they react. Students investigate atoms, elements, compounds, chemical reactions and materials used in everyday life.
Physics examines energy, forces, motion, electricity, waves and space. Pupils develop an understanding of how the physical world works and how scientific principles apply to real-world situations.
Why Science matters
Science helps pupils understand the world around them and prepares them to become informed, responsible citizens. It develops curiosity, encourages critical thinking and supports future study and careers in medicine, engineering, environmental science, technology and many other fields.
What skills do pupils learn?
Through practical investigations, experiments and theory, pupils develop:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Critical thinking and evaluation
- Scientific enquiry and investigation techniques
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Communication and teamwork
- Independent learning and resilience
How can parents help?
Parents can support science learning by:
- Encouraging curiosity and questioning
- Discussing scientific topics in everyday life
- Supporting homework, revision and organisation
- Promoting wider reading, watching documentaries and taking educational visits
