Admissions
Applying for a place at our School
Year 7 Admissions
Parents should apply for their child's place at secondary school via the Lancashire County Council's website. Applications for September 2026 opened on 1st September 2025, with a closing deadline of 31st October 2025. Parents will find out which school their child has been allocated on Monday, 2nd March 2026.
School places are not allocated on a first come first serve basis. All applications received before the application deadline are given equal priority.
If you have missed the deadline, please complete the application as soon as possible. Applications received on time will be prioritised and a late application may reduce your chance of getting your preferred choice of school.
Supplementary Information
As a voluntary‑aided Church School, applicants may complete a supplementary form. Parents wishing their application to be considered against the following criteria: living in the local area, sibling in school, special social/medical needs and parent faith commitment, will need to submit a supplementary form directly to the school.
ADMISSIONS POLICY
Admissions Policy for September 2026
Proposed Admissions Policy for September 2027
Hutton Church of England Grammar School and Sixth Form is currently in consultation to change our admissions number from 149 to 128. This affects the admissions policy for the 2027-2028 intake onwards.
IN-YEAR ADMISSIONS
In-Year Admissions are for students joining the school outside the normal admissions rounds (i.e., not at the start of Year 7).
If you are new to the area and require a school place, or if you already live locally and wish to move your child from their current school to Hutton, your application should be made directly to the school. A place will be offered where places are available.
To apply for a place, please complete our In-Year Admissions form (available below) and return it to admissions@huttongrammar.co.uk. If you have any questions about in-year admissions, please contact Mrs Waddell by the above email, or by phone on 01772 613112.
If you wish to apply using faith-based criteria, please also complete the Supplementary Form, available below.
You may call the school office to confirm that your form (and any supporting evidence, if applicable) has been received. Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt, and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days.
Where places are available but there are more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria will be applied to ensure the correct child/children are offered the places.
If no places are available, your child will be added to the waiting list, and you have the right to appeal. Please note that the waiting list does not guarantee a place. If your child is currently not in education, you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.
Further information on how to apply for a local school can be found on the Lancashire County Council website: Changing schools during the school year.
