Huttonian Award

Hutton Church of England Grammar School is a distinctively Christian school and all that we do stems from our Christian beliefs and values. The life and teachings of Jesus are the firm foundations on which our school stands. The Huttonian Award has been specifically designed to help you, building upon the foundations of the Christian faith, to become the best you can be for God and for others.

We are delighted that you are going to take up the challenge of the Huttonian Award. If successful, you will be amongst the first students in the school’s very proud and long history to achieve such an award. This is a really exciting opportunity for you to accomplish some great achievements, not just in your academic ability but in making your community a better place.

The Huttonian Award is based around our main three school values which are evident in the life of Jesus. These are accomplishment, humility and service. St Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, tells us:

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mind-set as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus humbled himself before others, even though he was God, he served others, putting them before himself. Therefore, God helped him accomplish all that he set out to do. So, as you set out on your Huttonian Award, we pray that you will discover the joy of putting others before yourself, be always ready to help those who need it without counting the cost and know that God will be with you to help you accomplish all that you have set out to do.

Have fun, keep safe and we’ll look forward to hearing about all your accomplishments at the end of this academic year.
