Collective Worship

Worship at Hutton Grammar School and Sixth Form

Collective Worship is at the heart of our school and sixth form life. It is an essential part of pupils and students' Christian education and spiritual development. It is an opportunity for all members of our community to explore aspects of the Christian faith, to explore and reflect on shared values and their application.

We do, however, recognise that not all members of our community share the same beliefs and so Collective Worship is designed to be: -

  • Invitational
  • Inclusive
  • Inspirational

Each week we have a ‘theme of the week’ that staff, pupils and students explore through:

Main Worship: This takes place in the Main Hall, as a year group.

Reflection Questions: This takes place in form groups; pupils and students are encouraged to discuss the theme and think through its worth and potential applications for life.

Form Worship: This takes place in form groups and is further reflection or prayer on the theme.

Pupils and students are encouraged as much as possible to create and lead Worship.

Staff, pupils and students are also invited, at least once a year to take part in a service of Holy Communion in our Chapel.

Worship is supported our local clergy and youth workers who regularly come into our school and sixth form:

  • Rev’ Sam Crossley: Vicar at St Andrew’s, Longton
  • Rev’ Tom Woolford: Vicar at All Saint’s, New Longton
  • Piper Williamson: Youth worker at All Saint’s, New Longton
  • Alex Woodfield: Youth worker at Hesketh Bank Christian Community

We have also been greatly blessed by visits from Philip North the Bishop of Blackburn and Jill Duff the Bishop of Lancaster.

As well as Craig Lavender, who represents the ‘Good News for Everyone’ Society (formerly known as the Gideons), who blesses our year 7’s and 12’s with New Testaments each year.

Services at St Andrew's Longton
