Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care at Hutton Sixth Form
Pastoral care is a vital part of life at Hutton Sixth Form. We believe that education is about more than academic achievement — it’s about supporting each student as a whole person. We aim to help you grow emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically, as well as academically. At Hutton, you’ll find a supportive environment where you can thrive in all aspects of your development.
Form Tutors
Every sixth form student is part of a form group, led by one of our dedicated sixth form tutors. You’ll meet with your form tutor every morning, and you can easily book additional sessions if you need extra support. Form tutors are your first point of contact for a wide range of issues, whether it’s subject concerns, UCAS and future planning, or challenges at home or school.
Open-Door Policy
We pride ourselves on being approachable. Our teachers and leadership team are available throughout the school day for informal conversations; no appointment needed. Whether you need help with schoolwork or just want to talk about something personal, someone will always be there to listen.
Mr. Hill and Miss Yule are based in the sixth form centre and are readily accessible to students. Their presence helps build a close-knit, supportive community where everyone feels known, valued, and heard.
Mental Health Check-ins
Your wellbeing matters. Regular mental health check-ins are built into form time, giving you the chance to reflect on how you’re feeling and raise any concerns. A short questionnaire allows you to request a follow-up conversation with your form tutor, head of year, or a relevant external agency, ensuring you get the right support at the right time.
Compass Bloom Drop-In Sessions
Once a month, students can attend a drop-in session with Compass Bloom, a free and confidential emotional wellbeing service. They offer support for young people experiencing mild to moderate emotional or mental health difficulties.
Compass Bloom can help with:
-
Low mood or lack of motivation
-
Mild to moderate anxiety, including worries or fears
-
Coping with change or life transitions
-
Managing emotions such as anger, frustration, or distress
These sessions are informal, supportive, and aimed at helping young people develop healthy coping strategies.
Counselling Service
For students needing more in-depth support, our in-house counsellor, Malti, is available for one-on-one sessions. Malti works across both the sixth form and main school and is here to listen and support you through whatever challenges you may be facing.
At Hutton Sixth Form, you’re never alone. Our pastoral care systems are designed to give you the space, support, and tools to become confident, resilient, and well-rounded — ready to take on whatever comes next.
