English Department Teaching Assistant - Level 2b

Grade 5 - SCP 6-11 (£21,968-£24,054 pa - pro rata)

25 hours a week (plus 1.5 hours at level 2a Grade 4) - term time only

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and hard-working Teaching Assistant to provide specialist support for our English Department.

The post-holder will work with the department to support a wide range of students. The role will involve delivering intervention and support to individuals and small groups of students at Key Stage 3 and 4; assisting teachers with planning and resources; supporting students with a wide range of SEND issues in the classroom and beyond; and playing an active role in the extra-curricular life of the department.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the English Language and its mechanics, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team with a range of staff and students of various ages, abilities and needs. An A Level English Language or Literature qualification would be desirable but is not an essential requirement.

The post-holder will work 25 hours a week Monday – Friday during term time only. The post-holder will also be required to work an additional 1.5 hours a week at TA 2a level to cover lunch and break time clubs and activities. The salary stated above will be reduced to reflect the part-time, part-year nature of the role. This is a permanent, variable hours, contract with a guaranteed minimum of 15 hours a week. The hours are reviewed on an annual basis according to the needs of the school and the number of students requiring support but are unlikely to change significantly from the current requirements.

Teaching Assistant - Level 2a

Required from 17th April 2023

We are looking to appoint a new colleague to join our SEND team. Teaching Assistants play a vital role in supporting the educational, personal and social development of students at the school and the successful candidate will work under the direction of the SENDCO to support students with a variety of needs in the classroom and at break and lunchtime activities.

Candidates will have a minimum of grade C or 4 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent). Experience of working in a school environment and awareness of strategies that can be used to support students with a variety of different needs would be an advantage. Training and support will be available to the successful candidate.

The post holder will work to provide support in the classroom across all curriculum subjects and for break and lunchtime clubs and activities. They will also be required to provide support to students sitting exams by acting as a reader or scribe.

This is a permanent variable hours’ contract with a minimum of 15 hours a week. The hours required from April 2023 are 29 a week which are worked Monday – Friday during term time only. The post-holder will start work at 8:35am to facilitate meet and greet for students and will finish at 3:05pm. The hours are reviewed on an annual basis according to the needs of the school and the number of students requiring support but are unlikely to change significantly from the current requirements.

The salary quoted above will be reduced to reflect the part time, part year nature of the role. The point at which the post-holder will be paid is dependent on their experience. Library Manager

Required as soon as possible

Grade 5 (SCP 6-11)

32.5 hours a week - Term Time plus Inset Days

We are looking to appoint a Library Manager to operate the school library and assist in the development of the service area.

The post holder will be responsible for the development and promotion of the library services, providing and delivering an information service for pupils and the selection of library stock and organising stock management work. They will also support the promotion of reading across the school as well as assisting with Key Stage 3 timetabled English library lessons.

We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in literacy and is passionate about students’ learning. Experience in a similar role would be an advantage. An enthusiasm and commitment to the key role of libraries in the learning process and reader development is essential.

The post holder will also be required to carry out additional administrative duties to support the day-to-day running of the school. The exact nature of this work will be determined by the Head Teacher and School Business Manager depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

This is a permanent, variable hours, contract with a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours a week. The remaining 12.5 hours relates to the additional administrative work that is required. The hours will be reviewed on an annual basis according to the needs of the school but are likely to remain the same unless there are major changes to the level of support required.

The post-holder will work Monday – Friday between 8:30am and 3:30pm during term time only plus Inset days. They will be paid on Grade 5 (SCP 6-11). The salary quoted above will be reduced to reflect the part time, part year nature of the role. Previous experience will be taken into account when determining the appropriate point on the scale.

Hutton is an 11-18, Church of England school, rated 'Good' by Ofsted (2022) and 'Outstanding' by SIAMS (2018). We are regularly over-subscribed in Year 7 and admit students from a variety of areas, backgrounds and faiths.
