Cover Supervisor

Required from 1st September 2024

Grade 6 SCP 11-19 (£25,979 - £29,777 - pro rata) 

We are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor to support the delivery of lessons across a variety of curriculum areas during periods of staff absence.

The post holder will work to actively deliver the lesson content set by teaching staff in their absence while also maintaining high standards of classroom behaviour and encouraging student engagement. On occasions when they are not required to provide cover for lessons, the post holder will assist with the operational management of the school by undertaking additional supervision duties or other administrative tasks.

Applicants will have excellent interpersonal skills, experience of working with children and young people and a flexible approach to their work. We are looking for an individual who can use their enthusiasm and confidence to support and encourage our students while ensuring appropriate progress and classroom behaviour. A willingness to support the Christian ethos and extra-curricular life of the school is also essential.

This is a permanent contract and the post holder will work 5.5 hours a day, Monday to Friday during term time, plus 5 INSET days. The salary paid will be between £17,215 and £19,732 due to the part time, part year nature of the role. The point at which the post-holder will be paid is dependent on their previous experience.

Minibus Driver

Required as soon as possible

Grade 3 (£11.59 an hour - this rate is due to rise in April and we are awaiting confirmation of the new rates and pay scales)

We are looking to appoint a reliable and approachable person to drive our school minibus.

The post-holder will be responsible for transporting students to and from school each morning and afternoon along a designated route. The hours of work will be 7:15am - 8:45am and 3:00pm - 4:30pm Monday - Friday during term time only. They will be required to carry out spot checks on the vehicle to ensure it is fit to drive and to transport students safely, ensuring their welfare and promoting good standards of behaviour while they are using the minibus. 

Candidates must have D1 on their driving licence and will be subject to a driving assessment to check their suitability for the role before any offer of employment is confirmed. 

There will also be an opportunity for the post-holder to work additional hours to facilitate transport for school trips and fixtures during the school day on an ad hoc basis. This will be discussed with the successful candidate.

The current hourly rate is £11.59 an hour but this will rise in April 2024 when the living wage rises come into effect. We are currently awaiting confirmation of the hourly rates for the revised payscales.

Reading Lead (HLTA)

Grade 7 SCP 19-25 (£29,777 - £33,945 pro rata)

The Governors of Hutton C of E Grammar School are seeking to appoint an outstanding reading specialist. This is a newly developed role to further support and champion a love of reading at our school. The role is to lead the development of our well resourced library, support the English department in their drive for reading excellence and support our pupils on their reading journey. We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking candidate with the following qualities:

  • To be passionate about the importance of reading at all levels

  • Work closely with the Head of English and Literacy Co-ordinator

  • The ability to inspire pupils in their reading choice

  • The ability to support pupils in small groups in their reading. Training can be given in phonics

  • Understanding of the barriers in securing strong literacy skills in pupils

  • Support and lead literacy delivery in small groups

  • Organise and plan for the resourcing of the library

  • Lead the library at key points in the day, including supervision of the library at break, lunch and after school

  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills

The post-holder will work 8:15am - 4:15pm Monday- Friday during term time plus INSET days. The salary quoted above will be reduced to reflect the term time only nature of the role.

Essential qualifications are listed on the attached job description and person specification. Experience of supporting and working with pupils and students in a school environment is essential. Knowledge of phonics would be an advantage but is not essential as training can be provided.
