Introduction to Key Stage 3 RS

At Key Stage 3 we look at the six main world religions, with an emphasis on Christianity. As we are a church school, we work within the Diocesan framework and promote key Christian values. We hope that through Religious Studies, students can develop an awareness and tolerance of the beliefs of others in modern society.

Topics students will study

In Year 7, students will cover the following topics:

  • What is Religious Studies?
  • Religious Leaders
  • Jesus
  • Judaism
  • Prayer
  • Symbols
  • Parables

In Year 8, students will cover the following topics:

  • Ultimate questions
  • Faith in Action (linked to the Archbishop Young Leaders Award)
  • Pilgrimage
  • Islam
  • Sikhism
  • Christian beliefs about Jesus

In Year 9, students will cover the following topics:

  • Forgiveness and Reconciliation
  • Environment
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • Buddhism
  • Hinduism

Students will also begin the GCSE Religious Studies course towards the end of Year 9.

How students will be assessed

Each year group will complete three formal assessments, one each term.

Extra-curricular activities and educational visits

Students will have the opportunity to take part in a number of subject related trips and activities. Guest speakers are invited into school throughout the year.

Students in Year 7 will take part in the 'Breathe' Day during the summer term. Students in Year 8 cover topics linked to the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award.
